About Alfred Habegger
Alfred Habegger taught at the University of Kansas for thirty years and at the University of Bucharest as the Fulbright Lecturer in American Literature from 1972-73. His scholarly articles, essays, and reviews have appeared in American Literature, New England Quarterly, PMLA, Novel, and in various essay collections. THE FATHER: A Life of Henry James, Sr. was published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 1994, and MY WARS ARE LAID AWAY IN BOOKS: The Life of Emily Dickinson was published by Random House in 2001. His forthcoming biography, MAGNIFICENT FRAUD, chronicles the life of Anna Leonowens, the inspiration for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, The King and I. Habegger makes his home in rural northeastern Oregon.
