About James Ellroy
James Ellroy was born in Los Angeles in 1948. His L.A. Quartet novels, THE BLACK DAHLIA, THE BIG NOWHERE, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, and WHITE JAZZ, were international bestsellers. His novel AMERICAN TABLOID was Time Magazine's Best Book (fiction) of 1995; his memoir, MY DARK PLACES, was a Time Best Book of the Year and a New York Times Notable Book.

Otto Penzler is the proprietor of The Mysterious Bookshop in New York City. He was publisher of The Armchair Detective Quarterly for 17 years, and the founder of The Mysterious Press and Otto Penzler Books. He is the editor of THE BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES OF THE YEAR, a series of thrillers launched by Harcourt Brace in the U.S. and Anthony Cheetham in the U.K., and numerous anthologies.
