About James Carlos Blake
James Carlos Blake has written seven books of fiction, including IN THE ROGUE BLOOD (winner of the
Los Angeles Times Book Prize), RED GRASS RIVER (winner of the Chautauqua South Book Award),
BORDERLANDS (winner of the Southwest Book Award), and WILDWOOD BOYS.
His shorter works have appeared in an assortment of literary publications, including The Sun,
Quarterly West, Glimmer Train, Saguaro, The Los Angeles Times Book Review, and The Oxford American.
His novella “I, Fierro” won the 1991 Quarterly West Novella Prize, and his story “Under the
Sierras” received the National Authors in the Park Short Story Award in 1993.
Blake was born in Mexico and raised in Texas and Florida. After service in the U.S. Army
paratroopers, he earned degrees from the University of South Florida and Bowling Green State
University. He lives in Texas and Florida.
