Tony Lee was born and raised in New York City, educated there and in upstate New York, Dublin, Ireland, and Salamanca, Spain. He has been a waiter, bartender, bouncer, house painter, building superintendent, art handler, and deli clerk. He has taught creative writing, English and World literature at universities around New York state. In 1998 he received the Thayer Fellowship in the Arts.
