BETWEEN TWO RIVERS
by Nicholas Rinaldi
Foreign Publishers: Transworld, UK
A luxury apartment house in lower Manhattan is home to as wide a range of characters as readers
may have come across since the bestseller SHIP OF FOOLS. In Nicholas Rinaldi’s novel, you will
meet, among others, an aging German who flew for the Luftwaffe in World War II, a surgeon who
performs sex changes, a young actress who marries an undertaker, a woman who has turned her
apartment into a jungle complete with wildlife.
The building becomes the central character of the novel as it stands in the lengthening shadow of
the World Trade Center. The concierge of the building, Farro Fescu, sees all and knows all.
Through him we will see the lives of his tenants interweave and, in some cases, end violently.
Violence is always in the background as the novel ends in some of the most terrifying scenes we
have ever encountered in fiction.
